Mobile Phones will be the Main Gateway to the Internet by 2020

Today, a great article by Online Media Daily talks about how the explosive adoption of web-enabled mobile handsets will impact how we all access the internet by 2020. It discusses the possibility of a unified mobile web access scheme in which we always have access to the internet from our mobile devices. I pulled a great quote, that talks about how the mobile phone continues the blur the line between traditional computing devices and cell phones:

Indeed, many of the Web experts agreed that future mobile phones will function more as computers than phones. “By 2020 I don’t think it will be so easy to distinguish between a mobile phone and a laptop,” said Steve Jones, co-founder of the Association of Internet Researchers and associate dean at the University of Illinois-Chicago. “These will blend into a general ‘mobile computing’ category of device (for which we probably don’t yet have a name).”

"Passion and enthusiasm can be hard things to come by, but there are a few special people who's work is more than just a job and where being just a subject matter expert is not enough. Cindy is one of those people. I have had the pleasure of inviting Cindy to speak at Microsoft to the Live Search team and have heard her speak on numerous other occasions and would recommend her as an expert in Mobile search and as a speaker knowledgeable in many other aspects of the search business. It has been a pleasure working with Cindy and hope to work with her again in the future." October 15, 2008
